Will the Kindle spell the end of the bookcase
I enjoy reading and thus far, I have resisted the growing temptation of buying a Kindle.
There's a certain enjoyment of sitting in my favorite chair and reading a good book. If it's a hardcover, I'll use the dust cover to mark my page, if it's a paperback, I'll just fold the corner of the page. And I like to keep my books, I won't lend one out to friends because I know it won't be returned and they're stuffed on bookcases in my home.
But actually, I rarely if ever have gone back and re-read one of my saved treasures.
Now bookcases are a nice home decor item that look good filled with books and decorative objects (or stuff as many people would call it). And many homeowners add built in bookshelves to their homes for that same purpose.
So what will happen to bookcases in the future after Jeff Bezos' game changing announcement yesterday of Kindles selling for as little as $79 and the Kindle Fire tablet offered at $199 if we all begin to consume digital media. After all, most people don't have any CD towers any more, do they.
And while I don't expect the Kindle Fire to be as "good" as an iPad, there certainly will be a very large market for it and once we start to read books with an eReader, there might not be anything to put on those bookcases any more.
Maybe we can buy those fake books to appear intellectual
