Does real estate photography matter, you be the judge

Charleston real estate homes for saleI noticed a home listed for sale that met my buyers search criteria and it very well might be a very nice home.

But the picture made me question whether it would be a good home to show or a waste of time. As you can see to your left, the home was obviously photographed at night and frankly, it looks like it's pretty scary to enter even though more than likely, we would be visiting during daylight hours.

Selling your home in CharlestonWhen I personally take a listing, I try to take a photograph of the home on a sunny day with Carolina blue skies. Homes seem to look at their best that way. Usually the preparation time to get a listing into the Charleston MLS is at least a few days and we're kind of lucky down here in Charleston with hundreds of sunny days per year to be able to count on getting a good picture. And in the unlikely event that we don't have good weather, it's important enough to me to go back and take a new photo as soon as the skies clear.

So does real estate photography matter. The home has been on the market for months.

Yes, I believe, photos speak a thousand words and really, prospective buyers can really decide on the first impression. When they see on the website that the photo is kinda creepy-looking, then they are doubting if they are going to visit it or not. :)

Personally I like the night photo.  It is different.

Well Maureen, I've seen some very nice (and different) night photos but there was outdoor lighting to enhance the effect.

Our job of course is to market a listing in the most positive and appealing way, I don't think this picture did that.

But by the way, I drove by the home during the day and the home didn't look all that good then either.
