Compare property taxes by state

Just about everyone who is considering relocation to Charleston asks me what the property taxes in South Carolina are and thankfully, I am always able to provide them with very good news, that property taxes are very low especially compared to those paid in the Northeast.

While property taxes vary by county and by location within each county, Charleston SC property taxes average one half of one percent of the value of your home (if it is your primary residence). If you are over 65, you also qualify for a homestead exemption on the first $50,000 in assessed value.
