Real estate is local or is it global
It's long been said that real estate is local, that it really doesn't matter to the Charleston real estate market how market conditions are in Florida or New Jersey for example except for the fact that if someone was selling their home there and wanted to move to Charleston, their move and how much money they had available to buy with might be predicated on how successful they were in selling their home.
Just this morning, I received an email inquiry from a buyer who was searching the Charleston MLS but it was written in French. Now you have to understand that I didn't do all that well in school when it came to foreign languages, I took Spanish in High School and French in College but my grades were not so good in either. Basically, I speak American English.
Now in my years as a Charleston real estate agent, I have helped buyers from both Europe and Asia buy homes in Charleston but they all spoke English. And even though they sometimes talked to each other in a foreign language that I didn't understand (kind of like how my parents used to talk in Yiddish when I was a kid and they didn't want me to know what they were saying), we basically communicated in English, the transactions were successful and they are happy with the homes they bought.
But unfortunately I had to say to "Brigitte", I'm sorry but I can't communicate in French.
Real estate is local but this was a reminder that real estate is also global.
