[Paywall] NY Times digital subscription starts today
Newspapers are in trouble, that isn't news. And there are only a few high quality newspapers out there no matter whether you lean left, right or are somewhere in between politically. Personally, I find the NY Times to have interesting articles (that I share with you on this blog) just as I find the Wall Street Journal to have interesting articles and obviously, The Times leans left and the Journal leans right. The Journal has been behind a paywall with selected articles for a while and today, the NY Times does the same with a slightly different approach.
You will be able to read 20 articles per month before being asked to pay for a digital subscription.
Some exceptions will apply:
"The home page at NYTimes.com and all section fronts will remain free to browse for all users at all times. Readers who come to Times articles through links from search, blogs and social media like Facebook and Twitter will be able to read those articles, even if they have reached their monthly reading limit. For some search engines, users will have a daily limit of free links to Times articles."
It will be interesting to see how this works out. I for one hope that the Times will continue to survive and be able to provide worthwhile content.
Full disclosure: I have no affiliation (except my brother in law works for the Times) and have no stock ownership position with the NY Times Company.
