It's different in Charleston, it's vibrant!
I spent yesterday with a retired couple who are considering relocating to Charleston. They are what are called "half backs", in other words, they are from the Northeast and own a second home in Florida but would prefer to be closer to their home and family up North or half way back. That's one reason the Carolinas have become such a popular retirement destination.
Many of us have read or heard about the terrible housing conditions especially in Florida. But it was fascinating to hear them talk about what happened to prices on the way up and of course down.
And they said that home prices in Florida are way down and there are foreclosures everywhere and businesses have closed and all in all, it's a terrible scene.
They were very surprised that our Charleston real estate market was so strong and equally surprised by how vibrant the Charleston area is.
And I suggested to them like I suggest to all visitors to Charleston that they go downtown and visit the Historic District and take a carriage ride and not just see our beautiful city but also learn a little something about Charleston's history.
