[Hmm] Point2 suggests getting a Wordpress blog

charleston real estate blogBack in the day before social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and even before real estate blogs became the rage, it was important for a real estate agent to get a website. And back then, most real estate websites were template sites and Point2 had some of the best available.

Now some agents might have just left all the pre written content and just added their name, phone number and email and then added their website to their business cards and wondered why nobody ever visited. Or you could have really personalized the website and added a lot of local content and give buyers the ability to search for homes for sale which is the primary reason anybody really visits real estate websites.

Then blogs came along and everybody had to have one so Point2 accommodated that need by adding one. It was a very simple blog platform that allowed you to do most basic things. Again, some agents might have written a couple of posts and didn't get any "leads" right away and gave up on the idea of having a blog because it's a lot of work to write a post every day while others like myself committed the time and effort to blog and found it pays big dividends by adding content every day and giving readers the opportunity to meet and find out about you.

And of course, now we have Facebook and Twitter where you don't have to spend too much time to "like" something or just write something no longer than 140 characters.

Anyway, while all this was going on, a lot of people found that Wordpress was quite simply the finest platform for blogging and actually could also be a total website solution.

Regular readers (and thank you if you are one) may have noticed that the pictures were missing recently and that some pictures were blurred like the screen shot above. When I called Point2, customer service was helpful as always and told me that when they perform updates, there is a "caching period" when pictures might display incorrectly. Well, since a picture is worth a thousand words and this is a visual medium anyway, that's a big problem. And believe it or not, their suggestion was that maybe I should consider a Wordpress blog.

Now they were most likely thinking that I would just add a Wordpress blog and continue to use their website. But actually, when this started to happen on more than one occasion, I knew that I would have to bite the bullet and create a totally new website with a Wordpress theme. And while I am not planning on getting rid of my Point2 site in the near future, it could happen one day.

I'll keep you posted when the new site is ready and my apologies when you visit here and the pictures are somehow missing that day.
