[Thank you Google] Better rankings for high quality websites

Google announced they have changed their algorithm to improve your search experience by providing better rankings for high quality websites and weed out websites that have tried to "game" the system.

From the WSJ, “Google said it changed its mathematical formula late Thursday in order to better weed out ‘low-quality’ sites that offer users little value.”

Amit Singhal and Matt Cutts writing at the Google Blog, “This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.” (emphasis added)

That's very good news for both this website and for those of you who are interested in Charleston real estate. This website has consistently been on page one of Google ranking anywhere from first to seventh for the most important search term, Charleston real estate, depending on how the magical spiders feel on any given day. As you can see below, CharlestonOnlineHomes is ranked fifth this morning. I've never really used Bing that often but good news there too, today's ranking is second so I kind of like that as well although they seem to have more ads cluttering their page than Google.

Thank you Google (and Bing).
