[Shop til you drop] SC tax free weekend
The annual SC tax free weekend coinciding with back to school shopping runs from today through Sunday. But you might be surprised by some of the items on the list that are exempt from sales tax as I was a few years ago when I found I could get a tuxedo shirt (I guess they figured that mom and dad could save a little money by doing a little early shopping for prom outfits).
Here is the list of tax exempt items according to the SC Department of Revenue website.
You might also find that stores that don't sell merchandise that would be tax exempt like furniture stores and car dealers are having big sales this weekend including touting tax free savings which would be an additional discount (They would still have to submit the tax to the SCDOR but wouldn't be charging you.)
And this might be the last year to get some items that are loosely defined as school supplies like that tuxedo shirt under recommendations by the SC Tax realignment committee. Read more from The State.
