Summer is here
... even though the calendar says it's a week away. Air conditioners across the Lowcountry struggled to keep up with the unusually hot temperatures over the weekend and continuing today. The end of the Spoleto Festival generally marks the end of Charleston's spring season and spring is absolutely the best time of year to live in Charleston.
The weather doesn't change too much from day to day and the forecast for the next few months is usually the same, partly sunny with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon with temps not varying all that much.
But Charleston locals know that there are two summers in Charleston; early summer from Memorial Day until early August is generally the hotter and dryer and much nicer part of summer. School is out, vacations are on everyone's mind and it's time to go to the beach or cool off in the swimming pool.
But then there is late summer and there is a cute phrase in the lexicon of Charleston real estate, "there are two reasons to not want to live in Charleston, August and September". The simple reason, it's rainy season, it's very hot and humid and it's the peak season for hurricanes.
