Is the price of that home negotiable [you be the judge]

Charleston real estate homes for saleSince Charleston house hunters can pretty much search the Charleston MLS on their own, some people might wonder why they might need a real estate agent other than to open the door and collect a commission. And while there probably are a few buyers who can effectively practice "do it yourself" real estate, for the vast majority, I would suggest that they need the help of a Charleston real estate professional to buy a home.

Here's an example from an email sent by a potential home buyer the other day.

"My husband and I love this home and really want to see it as soon as possible. Is the price negotiable."

Well, if you're sending that email to the listing agent, then I would suggest that he / she might let the seller know that a potential buyer loves their home and that you could probably sell for pretty much top dollar.

How can the listing agent do that. Well, according to the South Carolina agency disclosure, unless you enter into a written agency agreement as a client, anything you say is not confidential. Bottom line, your negotiating position would be diminished.

So is the price of that home negotiable? You be the judge.
