77 percent of Charleston MLS listings fail to sell

Charleston real estate MLS listingsThat statistic is simply amazing but true.

There are currently 9914 active listings of homes for sale in the Charleston MLS. 8070 of those homes have been listed since the first of the year.

There are currently 1776 homes under contract that are contingent and 730 homes that are pending and most of those homes can expect to sell, of course, there are always a few that won't. And so far this year, 2632 homes have sold.

But, back to that percentage, 77 percent of Charleston MLS listings fail to sell.

There have been 965 listings that have expired unsold and a whopping 3007 listings that have been withdrawn. Now, withdrawns are a little funny because a lot of listings get withdrawn and then relisted as fresh new listings. Sometimes, the listing is withdrawn because the home seller has fired the listing agent and hired a new one. So a lot of those listings are some of the new listings that are now active.

But, if you are thinking of selling your home in the Charleston real estate market, just listing it doesn't necessarily mean that it will sell. In fact, the odds are 3 to 1 against it.
