Berkeley County is booming!
During the last decade, (it seems kind of funny to write that) Dorchester County including Summerville was one of the 50 fastest growing counties in the country. Because the Dorchester II school district is so highly regarded, Summerville and Dorchester County were very popular choices for many people who wanted to relocate to the Charleston area.
But due to that growth, town and county residents voted more anti-growth officials into office so as to preserve the quality of life. Of course, people still want to move to Summerville, just yesterday someone from Connecticut told me that they wanted to move to Summerville this spring.
And while I've always sold a lot of homes in both Summerville and Goose Creek, I was surprised at how many cards I mailed to clients in Goose Creek when I was addressing my Christmas cards last month. But this past weekend I spent several days with clients looking specifically at moving to Goose Creek and Berkeley County and I was simply amazed at all the growth that seemed to have occurred overnight.
Berkeley County has a lot of land and the elected officials are more developer friendly so lots of builders have set up shop and are building lots of homes for new residents to live in. And with Google, SPAWAR, The Naval Weapons Station and other major employers nearby combined with affordable homes and lower property taxes in Berkeley County, all I can say is that Berkeley is booming!
