Getting to Charleston is [isn't] easy

Delta AirlinesMy wife finally got back home to Charleston after being stuck in New York City for the past several days after the Blizzard of 2009. Her flight on Delta, originally scheduled for Saturday and rescheduled for noon yesterday finally departed at 6:30PM and she got home around 9PM.

Of interest, Stephen Colbert, host of The Colbert Report was also on the flight to his hometown of Charleston along with his wife and children. Polly said they were nice and well behaved, the children that is, maybe not Stephen.

And in other silly news, a government initiative will be able to fine airlines for lengthy ground delays of more than 3 hours, especially those that leave passengers without food, water or adequate bathroom facilities. Isn't flying fun these days.

I recently saw a BBC program about how Britain pioneered commercial passenger air travel in the 1920's and 1930's.

The average wait at the airport then was around 8 (yes EIGHT) minutes, and in those very early days the airline would even send a limousine to your house to collect you and your luggage.

Haven't we made a lot of progress since then? NOT!
