That home is for sale, not for rent

... but it was advertised for rent on Craigslist (and not by me).

I got a call from someone who was interested in renting a home that I have listed for sale. Now, that might be OK if they were simply inquiring as to whether the seller might consider renting the home but what happened was that they saw the home advertised on Craigslist (and at a too good to be true price).

So imagine my surprise when I searched Craigslist and there it was, copied and pasted from the Charleston MLS and even more surprising, the contact email address was my name at yahoo dot com. Now I have a lot of email addresses including one at yahoo but my yahoo email address is not my name.

The first thing I did was contact Craigslist and their response was outstanding, the listing was removed instantly and they offered good advice on how to proceed should there be any further problems. I checked on the house and nobody was moving in (thankfully) and asked a neighbor to keep his eyes on the property just in case.

Now unfortunately, yahoo! didn't think it was quite as serious a problem, I got 2 automated emails from them and finally a day later, I got an email advising me that since the action took place outside of yahoo!, it might be inappropriate for them to take any action on the account without proof that the owner of the yahoo! account was actually involved.

It was not exactly the kind of customer service or response that I was expecting.

Thanks Cathy, I'm afraid this kind of stuff is all too common today.
