Funny misspellings in the Charleston MLS
Sometimes you just have to laugh as you view Charleston real estate listings. When writing property descriptions in the Charleston MLS, some real estate agents occasionally misspell words or use a word the wrong way.
Spell check is good but once in a while it doesn't quite work as you intended because it might substitute a word that doesn't quite mean what you want to say.
Some funny examples I noticed recently.
Let's start with a coffered ceiling. At the left is the famous coffered ceiling from The Pantheon in Rome. Some homeowners might want to have a coffered ceiling in their kitchen or family room and could probably enjoy something a little less grand.

But how about a cofferd ceiling or better yet, a coiffure ceiling. Wouldn't you like a little hair hanging from your ceiling.

More fun.
A listing suggested that a property would be good for a discrete buyer. And maybe the agent thought that discreet buyers might be interested in the property. But discerning is most likely the word that they were going for.
Definitions from Dictionary.com:
discrete: apart or detached from others; separate; distinct
discreet: showing prudence and circumspection
discerning: showing good or outstanding judgement or understanding
And just a few more:
It seems that dinning room is a commonly used way of spelling dining room in Charleston but ... how about the master suit (and what about the mistress' dress).
In the kitchen, would you like to prepare your meals in a gormet kitchen with decor appliances or might a gourmet kitchen with dacor® luxury appliances be a little better.
And then there is the hugh media room (where's Hugh anyway, the movie is getting started).
And if you are thinking of acreage with room for the ponies, make sure to bring your hourses.
I'm just sayin'
