New record price set for home sale in Historic Charleston Peninsula
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about 4 recent homes selling for over $2 million and closing during April in Historic Charleston. Another home was pending at that time and now I can report that sale closed recently and set a new record price for a home sale in the Historic Charleston Peninsula.
The home at 37 Meeting Street was built in 1760 and owned by the founder of Blackbaud Software, Tony Bakker and his wife Linda, recently sold for $7,375,000. The home went under contract in only 56 days and sold for about 5% less than the asking price of $7,750,000. More on the story by Katy Stech at the Post and Courier.
Despite a difficult real estate market and tougher economic times, homes in Historic Charleston still remain highly sought properties. A comparison of sales in Historic Charleston of this year to date to last year to date shows 10 homes selling for more than $2 Million in both 2008 and 2009 while homes selling between $1 and $2 Million declined slightly from 16 in 2008 to 14 in 2009.
