Hoping for change

pork barrel legislation or economic stimulusThe House of Representatives voted to approve the $819 Billion economic stimulus package by a margin of 244-118 with no Republicans voting for and even 11 Democrats voting against the pork laden bill. After the Bush administration's miserable attempt to "save the economy" with the $750 Billion TARP, it seems that newly elected President Barack Obama has his work cut out for him to deliver hope and change.

From AP, Obama will now seek Senate GOP help for the recover bill. In the meantime, Reuters reports The New Bank Bailout Could Cost Up To $2 Trillion.

Now that's some real money.

It's funny but a few of us were talking at the office today that if they just split the $819 Billion up and sent everyone in the US a check (and that includes babies, people who don't pay taxes and whoever else they can find) that it would probably solve the whole problem.

Now the person who came up with this thought that everyone would get like $270,000 but the reality is that each person would get $2730. But think about this, a family of 4 would get $11,000, a larger family of 6 might get over $16,000 and my wife and I would get over $5000.

Now if you add in the couple of Trillion going to the banks, then maybe everyone's check would double and the banks would be flooded with money that everyone would be depositing.

While smaller families might be jealous, I think everyone would be pretty happy with the money, would probably spend some and then the companies that are laying off people because of a lack of business would be busy and hire again and presto ...

problem solved, no waste.

I might have to send a little note to Tim (of course Hank didn't respond to my little bailout request but Tim might be more open minded).
