Finding the perfect home

Can you find the perfect home or maybe you aren't quite sure.
Many buyers search intently to find the perfect home in today's Charleston real estate market. But is any home really perfect?
Let's narrow your search with whatever may apply. Is the home in a school district you want your children to attend, is it near work and is it close to what you like to do.
Then there is the not so trivial issue of looking for a home in a price range that is affordable to you.
And there are potentially dozens of different things that might be on your want list or need list so the next question you have to ask yourself is what is really important and which are most important to you?
Just a dozen examples:
Is the home one or two stories.
Is the master up or is the master down.
How many bedrooms.
How is the floor plan.
Does the home have enough rooms and is the home large enough.
Do the kitchen, baths and closets matter.
Is the home ready to move in or does it need updating or renovation.
Is the home on a large lot or a small lot.
Is there a homeowners association or not.
Are there neighborhood amenities or not.
Is a good "deal" more important than a good house.
Are there too many children playing or not enough.
OK, now what do you do. Well, you may get lucky and find a home that meets all 27 of your criteria.
But probably not.
So what do you do. You can keep looking or you can compromise. And while no one really wants to compromise when buying a home, it's more than likely you'll have to give up one or two items as long as most everything you want and need can be found in one home.
Here's what I mean. If most of what you are looking for can be found and only one or two minor wants or needs are not available and those items are truly minor, the home just may be perfect. On the other hand, if you consider a want or need to be a high priority and that item is not available, everything else doesn't matter.
But here is one last bit of advice when searching for and buying the perfect home. If you don't know what you want, you'll never know when you find it.
Let the search begin.
