Your agent can show you all Charleston homes for sale

Your Charleston real estate agent can show you all Charleston homes for saleJust a little rant. I received a call from someone who wanted to see a house in a couple of hours. It wasn't my listing but when you search the MLS on my website, you can contact me. Every Charleston real estate agent who provides MLS search on their website can display every home for sale in the Charleston real estate market. It's called broker reciprocity and the benefit to buyers is that you don't have to call 9 different agents to see 10 different houses.

So anyway, I ask as I always do if they were working with another agent and the answer was yes. So I explained that since it wasn't my listing for the above reason, that they should call their agent to show the house.

Here is what's funny. They said they had not met their agent yet. Well, I don't know about you but if I was working with a real estate agent, I'd want to meet him or her before considering them to be my agent. Still, if you say you are "working" with another agent and the house you want to see is not my listing, I can not show you the house.

Develop a good relationship with a real estate agent and let them help you. A buyers agent will represent your interests in a real estate transaction. There is no cost to use a buyers agent since the seller traditionally pays the commission to the listing agent and the buyers agent. (The usual disclaimer for the sake of transparency, the seller pays the commission from the funds provided by the buyer and the mortgage.)

And yes, your agent should show you the house, not the listing agent.
