Charleston mourns 9 courageous heroes today

Charleston South Carolina Mayor Joe Riley declared Friday a day of mourning for the 9 firefighters who tragically lost their lives battling the massive blaze earlier this week. Approximately 30,000 family, friends, firefighters from around the country and citizens are expected at the North Charleston Coliseum for a memorial service to honor the 9 brave men. Many offices and businesses will be closed Friday throughout the Charleston area.

Charleston’s storied history includes many disasters including hurricanes, earthquakes and a number of larger fires that destroyed far more homes and businesses but never have so many lost their lives as the 9 courageous heroes battling the incredible heat generated by the rapidly escalating fire at The Sofa Superstore.

Such a tragedy Howard. They are true heroes. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, their families and the City of Charleston.

Jay, it's sad that tragedies like these are the events that remind us how fragile our lives really are and how certain courageous individuals risk their lives every day to make our lives better.
