72 hours in Manhattan, 36 hours in Charleston

We're getting set to spend the Memorial Day holiday weekend in Manhattan and I've been on the Internet searching for what to do and where to go. My wife lived in New York City for 8 years after college and is excited to visit and I used to spend about 6 weeks a year there on business in my former career so we both know the city well and are looking forward to jamming as much activity as we can into 3 full days.

I got somewhat sidetracked on the NY Times website because I found an article titled "36 hours in Charleston South Carolina". It's a fun article showcasing our wonderful city and some interesting things to do like walking around the historic district among secret gardens and historically significant churches, visiting Market Hall, great places to eat (of course), the new Arthur Ravenel Bridge, Mount Pleasant, shopping on King Street and more. Please read 36 hours in Charleston.

When I counted up the hours we would be in Manhattan, it turned out to be exactly twice that, 72 hours, thus the title of my post. Thus far, we know for sure we are having a great corned beef sandwich at the Carnegie Deli and Pete's Tavern is on the short list for another meal. By the way, Pete's is the longest continuously operating bar and restaurant in New York City and was open through Prohibition disguised as a flower shop.

We're planning a visit to the site of the World Trade Center and take in a museum to be determined and may catch a play if we can get a ticket to something good. There will certainly be time for a little shopping around town. We're not sure yet of our dinner plans but I'm sure we'll come up with something spectacular to rival the finest cuisine we've found in Charleston. We leave early Thursday morning!
