Fantasy Friday visits Charleston today

My friend, Larry Cragun, who writes several outstanding blogs out of the great Pacific Northwest visits Charleston today with his famous Fantasy Friday.

Our dreamers today are from Birmingham, MI.

Husband and wife team, Dmitry Koublitsky & Maureen Francis, work with home buyers and sellers throughout Oakland County. Maureen writes for us the following about their real estate dream:

My dream house

“I can envision my dream home very clearly in my mind. So vividly that I think I must have seen pictures of it somewhere, but, alas, when I look on line, nothing matches the visions in my head. I even spent quite a bit of time scrolling through the pages of my brokerage’s website, sothebysrealty.com, because I figured a Sotheby’s agent somewhere must have a listing like my dream home.”

Ok OK... first of all shameless plugs are acceptable. Second, this sounds tough.

“My tastes lean toward the simple and rustic. My dream home is really more about the setting than it is about the structure. I want panoramic ocean views and I don’t want to see any other homes around me. So my dream home is probably on my own island. Richard Branson’s Nekker Island is sort of a model for my dream home.”

.

Ahah there were some good tips here. We went out and purchased Maurine Island.

.

What do you think for starters?

.

and the beach….

But the house, oh the house...

“When I say simple and rustic, I don’t mean cheap, if you know what I mean. The main part of the house will be perched well above my private beach with its clear aqua colored water.

There will be a massive sandbar so my daughter can play out safely in shallow water. I have a beach kitchen down here for cookouts.”

Back up on the hill at the main house, Maureen wanted rustic, oh... not this

But this:

“The dining and living area are all opened to the ocean air and built from wood beams with a thatched roof. Everything is very casual and comfortable and looks like it came from the island.”

we have this:

“A waterfall cascades down the hill and can be heard from my bedroom window. The constant ocean breeze keeps the bugs away and the heat down. My master suite has a cozy balcony where I drink my morning tea and enjoy the sunrise.”

“Again, there is no glass in the windows that run the full height of home. There are guest cabanas set off from the main home so that my guests can have some privacy and then return to our living area to socialize and share great food and wine. I don’t have a vision of the kitchen, and I doubt I would ever enter it myself. My live in staff takes care of my meals and I take very good care of them. Gotta go, the sun is about to set over my island. I never miss a sunset when I am home.”

Thanks to Maureen, Dmitry, and Howard for sharing this Fantasy Friday. Lar
