West of the Ashley River from downtown Charleston is one of the Charleston area’s oldest suburban residential areas. Newer neighborhoods are being developed a little further out on Savannah Highway and Glen McConnell Parkway. Exciting new developments are happening in the Ashley River Bridge District with condos and single family homes currently under construction on the Ashley River with boat docks available in some cases.

Just west of the Ashley River from downtown and very conveniently located is West Ashley with many wonderful established neighborhoods and a nice mix of older and newer homes.

Windermere, South Windermere, Byrnes Downs, Avondale and Moreland are classic neighborhoods West of the Ashley featuring a variety of homes built in the 1940's and later. A convenient location close to downtown, shopping and restaurants make these West Ashley neighborhoods very trendy and popular today.

Just across the Old Ashley River Bridge or the new James Island Connector from Downtown Charleston, you'll discover 2 neighborhood jewels.
