The City of North Charleston was incorporated in 1972 and recently celebrated its 35th birthday. Carved from 7 square miles of unincorporated Charleston County with a population of approximately 20,000 in 1972, North Charleston today is now home to over 80,000 residents in a growing and sprawling city situated in both Charleston and Dorchester County.
Since the announcement of the Noisette Project several years ago, North Charleston and Park Circle has been one of the "hottest" areas for activity in the Charleston South Carolina real estate market.

North Charleston is currently engaged in major redevelopment projects. Most notable is the massive Noisette project, an ambitious mixed use project spearheaded by John Knott, the developer of Dewees Island, and a new shipping port along the banks of the Cooper River on the site of the old Charleston Navy Base. Adjacent to the Noisette Project is Park Circle, where the renovation of older homes is an ongoing activity and Montague Avenue is enjoying a renaissance with new businesses locating on the newly landscaped streetscape. New planned neighborhoods include Charleston’s first totally green neighborhoods. Oak Terrace Preserve features new homes under construction by Brentwood Homes and David Weekley Homes. Mixson, a mixed-use and mixed-income neighborhood by Vince Graham’s award winning I’on Group will be an affordable and distinctive example of the new urbanism movement. Mixson will have over 900 residences, offices, shops and restaurants featuring winding cobblestone streets, residences connected by archways and intimate parks and plazas.
North Charleston is a tourist destination as well with thousands of hotel rooms surrounding the Charleston International Airport, a 13,500 seat Coliseum for sports and concerts, convention center and a performing arts center with shopping adjacent at the new Tanger Outlet Center and many other stores at the Centre Point Development.
