Just across Charleston Harbor and the Cooper River from the historic city now spanned by the longest cable stayed bridge in North America, the lovely and historic town of Mount Pleasant is a much sought-after residential real estate address and the town has grown rapidly but because of carefully planning for development, has managed to preserve its rich heritage and small-town appeal. Mount Pleasant offers upscale dining and some of the best shopping in the Charleston area and make sure to take in the social scene at Shem Creek where great seafood restaurants overlook the shrimping trawlers. For Sunday Brunch, try the Hangtown Fry (it’s an oyster omelet) at the Shem Creek Bar and Grill.

Mount Pleasant has been a favorite area for the many families relocating to the Charleston area with many new developments and neighborhoods. A convenient location near downtown and the beaches, newer schools, great shopping and fine dining are just a few of the benefits of living in Mount Pleasant.

The Old Village in Mount Pleasant is a one of a kind neighborhood. Fronting Charleston Harbor, The Old Village is the closest Mount Pleasant has to a downtown (although a new downtown is planned around the Mount Pleasant Town Center). Pitt Street is the heart of activity and make sure to stop in the Pitt Street Pharmacy for an ice cream before taking a walk on the old Pitt Street Bridge along the waterfront.

A quaint 6 room inn and fine dining is available at the Old Village Post House in a beautifully restored building dating from the 19th century. The Maverick Group operates some of my favorite restaurants in the Charleston area including SNOB and High Cotton on East Bay in Historic Downtown Charleston.

In the Old Village, you'll find older cottages and colonial homes, many already renovated and others waiting for you to begin working on as well as newer homes and new construction set in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood filled with grand old oak trees.
